Purpose:
The Basketball Coach is responsible for leading and developing a middle school basketball program for youth ages 9–14. The coach will provide instruction in basketball fundamentals while creating a safe, positive, and encouraging environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, confidence, and personal growth.
Required Qualifications:
- Previous basketball coaching or playing experience preferred.
- Experience working with youth ages 9–14 preferred.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children of different skill levels.
- Ability to create a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
- Must be dependable, responsible, and able to follow all youth program and facility safety policies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and lead basketball practices appropriate for youth ages 9–14.
- Teach fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, rebounding, and footwork.
- Develop and lead age-appropriate drills, activities, and games.
- Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, and positive behavior.
- Provide constructive feedback and support to help participants improve their skills.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming practice environment.
- Monitor participants and address safety or behavioral concerns appropriately.
- Serve as a positive role model for participants.
- Communicate professionally with parents/guardians and program staff.
- Follow all Riverdale Y policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Assist with maintaining equipment and ensuring the basketball area is clean and organized.

Schedule:
- Days: Tuesday and Wednesday
- Hours: 5:30 PM–7:30 PM
- Total Hours: 4 hours per week
- Age Group: Youth ages 9–14
Salary
$35-40 per hour
